Introduction<\/span><\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1646033104634{background-color: #f6f5f0 !important;}”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14431″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow_3d” css_animation=”fadeIn”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]On a visit to the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research <\/span>at Dhaka, Bangladesh, in February 2010, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha <\/span>Chakri Sirindhorn saw many people who suffered from diarrhea. Her greatest <\/span>concern was for children who are the most vulnerable. Malnutrition <\/span>among children can be further aggravated by diarrhea and other infection <\/span>diseases. Consequently, children cannot achieve their full potential growth <\/span>and cannot attend school regularly because of illnesses. These can contribute <\/span>to a decrease in a child\u2019s ability to learn and lower school performance.
\n<\/span>
\nThis collaboration started in July 2010 with a study visit for highranking <\/span>officials led by Hon\u2019ble Minister of the Ministry of Primary and <\/span>Mass Education and principals from two selected schools situated in reachable <\/span>rural areas. The collaborative project aims at improving the nutrition <\/span>and health status of children and youth in rural Bangladesh with a major <\/span>emphasis on promoting health and hygiene. At first, hand washing facilities, <\/span>sanitary latrines, and safe and clean drinking water were provided to both <\/span>schools. Teaching media, such as hand washing posters, were prepared for <\/span>children for practicing proper hand washing. In addition, school agriculture <\/span>was also promoted. In the long-run, it is expected that the schools can be <\/span>good models for families and communities in terms of strengthening their <\/span>capacity in sanitation and hygiene practices as well as food production. A <\/span>total of 1,224 children have gained benefit from this collaboration.
\n<\/span>
\nHer Royal Highness paid a visit to these two schools in December 2011. <\/span>During her visit, Her Royal Highness learned that local people in Gazipur <\/span>set aside land for establishing vegetable plots so that children can practice <\/span>and learn about school agriculture. One company in Dakar donated tanks <\/span>to schools for storing water for daily use. During her visit, Her Royal Highness learned that local people in Gazipur set aside land for establishing vegetable plots so that children can practice and learn about school agriculture. One company in Dakar donated tanks to schools for storing water for daily use.
