Poor <\/span>nutrition as well as poor health and hygiene prevent those children from <\/span>achieving their full potential growth, which reduces their learning capacity <\/span>and work performance and ultimately leads to poor quality of life.
\n<\/span>
\nIn addressing these problems, collaborative efforts were established <\/span>among Indonesia, Thailand, and UNESCO in 2012 under the patronage of <\/span>Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. To provide a platform <\/span>for acquiring and sharing information, a workshop was held followed <\/span>by a field trip to visit Her Royal Highness\u2019s development projects in schools <\/span>in Thailand. Six educational officials and fourteen members of selected <\/span>primary schools in Bogor city and Bogor district, West Java, participate in <\/span>this program. The hands-on experiences gained from the workshop have <\/span>been implemented with equipment, seeds, and technical supports provided <\/span>by Her Royal Highness. In addition, on 19 November 2012 Her Royal <\/span>Highness paid a royal visit to 2 schools (Cibadak 02 Elementary School, <\/span>Kedung Badak 4 Elementary School) to gain first-hand experience and give <\/span>advice for implementation.
\n<\/span>
\nAfter a while, schools set up a small school gardens by growing herbal <\/span>plants, vegetables, and fruits. In some schools, they have tried raising fish. <\/span>Agricultural produce are available for children. The schools measure weight <\/span>and height for monitoring children\u2019s nutritional status. New sanitary toilets <\/span>and hand washing facilities provided in participating schools are the <\/span>means to teach children about personal hygiene, and children learn more <\/span>about how to reduce the spread of germs. In addition, the construction of <\/span>wells or reservoirs has contributed to increased access to water resources. <\/span>Children have more clean water for drinking. It is expected that children\u2019s <\/span>nutrition and health status will improve.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, some local wisdom and cultural practices are performed in <\/span>classes, such as showing respect to teachers by kissing their hand, greetings <\/span>(Salam), praying before and after learning, Sundaneese language practice, <\/span>and traditional music.<\/span><\/p>\n
