On June 19, 2025, at 9:15 a.m., Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn proceeded to monitor the progress of the royal initiative projects at Betty Dumen Border Patrol Police School, located in Pong District, Phayao Province. This visit marked the sixth time Her Royal Highness has followed up on the work of this school and the 1,129th visit to Border Patrol Police Schools. The school has been operating since 1985, currently offering education from kindergarten to Grade 6, with 100 students, 7 Border Patrol Police teachers, and 6 hired teachers. It falls under the responsibility of Border Patrol Police Company 32.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness followed up on the progress of the Child and Youth Development Project under Royal Initiative in terms of nutrition. Most students have nutritional status within the standard criteria and good physical fitness. Regarding educational opportunities, all Grade 6 graduates were able to pursue further education. The school currently has 9 scholarship students under Royal Patronage, with 44 having graduated.
In terms of vocational training, the school teaches brick-making to male students in Grades 4–6. Students practice hands-on skills in one-hour weekly sessions. The bricks produced are utilized to build animal pens and garden bed borders within the school.
Her Royal Highness observed a Grade 6 mathematics lesson on patterns and relationships, which was taught using role-play methods connected to real-life situations. This approach helps students apply mathematical concepts in planning and resource management. For cultural and local wisdom preservation activities, students are taught to make Gynostemma tea (Jiaogulan), herbal compress balls, and perform Yao-style embroidery.
In the library activities, students participated in “Reading Log” projects and created mini books to foster a love of reading. The student cooperative included activities such as running a school shop, savings program, bookkeeping lessons, and educational field trips to expand cooperative knowledge.
In the School Lunch Agricultural Project, students engage directly in planting vegetables, fruit trees, and peanuts, raising chickens and fish, and producing organic compost. The yield is sufficient for school lunches. Students also practiced avocado grafting and breeding barb fish, with outcomes extended to the community. The school distributed vegetable seeds, fruit seedlings, and fish fingerlings to students’ parents to grow for household consumption, helping reduce expenses and generate supplemental income.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness also visited the local residents, the Royal Mobile Medical Unit, and the Royal Dental Unit, which were staffed by Phayao Hospital and the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, who participated in the outreach mission.
